We were thrilled to partner with Wit & Whimzy again this year to sponsor an ice sculpture expertly carved by local artist Tyson Whistler as part of Marietta Main Street’s Ice Festival! Last year was the first year I missed the festival (my daughter was born in mid-January, wink wink) but it’s one of my favorite events of the year. Since 2017, Tyson has been carving over a dozen sculptures each year to bring this festival to life. And every year, we are impressed by his artistry and the sweat equity he puts into creating this experience for our community.

Over the years, Tyson has carved a camera, a viewfinder, and an owl for us - and this year, he created this lovely sea turtle, inspired by some of the artwork found in Clutch Collective and Wit & Whimzy!

It’s always fun to see what Tyson creates - a mixture of his ideas and ideas from festival sponsors. We were fortunate to have a perfectly cold, snowy day for this year’s festival, extending the lifespan of the sculptures for a few more days! They might last the week with this freezing forecast.

We walked around town to photograph as many of the sculptures as we could on Saturday to capture the magic before it melted. If you missed out on this year’s festival, here’s a recap - and be sure to save the date for next year! This is one event you won’t want to miss.

In addition to the sixteen pre-carved sculptures, Tyson completed a live carving on the armory lawn throughout the day, beginning at 1:30 pm. The fire-breathing dragon was worth the wait!
